Welcome to the Utica Capital

The Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce

The Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce in Canton, Ohio, provides a series of one-day programs where businesses can learn about the latest in shale oil and gas business development from industry leaders. With this knowledge, businesses can form their marketing and investment programs to meet Utica shale opportunity. Two seminars are scheduled for first-half 2016: Utica Upstream on April 6 and Utica Midstream on June 8.

The Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce has been serving shale gas through a series of business development seminars begun in 2012 in partnership with We invite the energy industry to speak and invite interested businesses to learn from these speakers while networking with them and other attendees.

Canton and Stark County, Ohio, is home to Chesapeake Energy in Ohio, to Williams Midstream in Ohio and to many oilfield services, engineering and consulting companies who needed a highly capable business community to establish Utica operations.

The Chamber has 1,600 members, including many oil and gas members outside of our immediate region, even outside Ohio, who want to be connected to our programming.

Canton markets itself as the Utica Capital because it is the most highly capable business community among the Utica counties in Ohio and because Chesapeake Energy chose Canton as its headquarters when it became the most visible exploration and production company in the Utica in 2011.

The heavy demand for oil and gas-related travel services has caused developers to add 800 hotel rooms to the county’s lodging inventory. It is easier than ever to come here for business.

Canton is a crossroads for Interstate 77 and U.S. Route 30, and the Akron-Canton Airport is the most capable regional airports in the shale play.

If you are shipping goods by rail, Stark County is home to the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway, a Class B carrier that has grown its energy related business considerably.

Marathon Petroleum’s Canton refinery is the closest refinery to the Utica play. Marathon’s pipeline subsidiary, which recently acquired MarkWest, is building a pipeline from Harrison County to the Canton Refinery to transport condensate and a variety of NGLs.

Canton also is home to Stark State College, the most capable oil and gas technical education center in the Utica with its oilfield training center downtown.
