Shepstone Management Company, Inc.
The merger of the Marcellus Shale’s Cabot Oil and Gas with Permian/Anadarko outfit Cimarex Energy has produced a new name in the energy lexicon; Coterra Energy!
We knew there would be a new name, of course, and it was a foregone conclusion that it would one of those made up descriptive names so popular but I must say I do like Coterra Energy. It has a nice ring to it and the “terra” fits well with the fact the oil and gas business is all about the Earth and the miracle natural resources with which we we have been truly Blessed. Absent oil and gas we would have never made a big leap in the welfare of mankind that we have. So, Coterra Energy would have been just fine with me if I had been asked. The new/old company also combines assets in Pennsylvania and Texas in an America straddling fashion that should improve business dynamics.
I learned the new name, Coterra Energy, this morning when I checked in on the Well Said Cabot blog only to find it is now Well Said Coterra! I proceeded to see what else had changed on the site and found this:
I then checked out the “About” page to find the same wonderful team in charge of Coterra Energy’s external affairs department that so successfully guided Cabot in their relations with the communities they serve; George Stark, Bill desRosiers and Natalie Clark. These people are truly pros, so very far ahead of much of the industry and with a lot to teach others. So, needless to say, I’m thrilled so far with how how Coterra Energy is taking shape.
