Russia’s state-owned natural gas giant, Gazprom, has made a new gas discovery in the Yamal region, Kallanish Energy learns from the company.
The discovery was made at the offshore Leningradskoye gas and condensate field, in the Kara Sea. The field’s current recoverable gas reserves are estimated at 1.9 trillion cubic meters, but this will change once further appraisal and estimates are submitted in the state register.
Gazprom said it found “substantial amounts of gas” after drilling and testing of an exploratory well. “Commercial gas inflow was obtained with a flow rate of about 600,000 cubic meters per day,” the firm said in a statement. “The field’s commercial value is now much higher than before.”
This is the fourth major discovery made by Gazprom on the shelf of the Yamal Peninsula in the Kara Sea over the past two years.
The company said its new gas production center in the Yamal Peninsula is “actively evolving” and will eventually become a major contributor to the Russian gas industry development. “Yamal will produce up to 360 billion cubic meters of gas per year,” according to Gazprom.
