Technology and innovation are what drive our operations. We strive to stay ahead of the industry and invest in training that keeps our employees’ skills sharp and our operations environmentally sound. Recently, this was the case when we brought the Infrared Training Center (ITC) to our Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania office.
ITC is the world leader in infrared thermography training. They offer extensive hands-on instruction to companies around the globe. Coterra brought the group onsite because we believed it’s critical to certify anyone who works within the realm of compliance and federal regulation.
“Having a team that is fully trained and confident in their skills is something no company can afford to lose,” said Will Shutt, Senior Air Compliance Specialist at Coterra. “Infrared thermography training was not always easily accessible for everyone. Coterra saw this barrier and took action to address it by offering this training.”
Coterra coordinated the class and invited Repsol and SWN to offer the training to their employees as well. Between the three companies, 20 individuals received their certification; Coterra led the way with 14 employees!
“This was a wonderful opportunity to partner with other operators in the area,” Will shared. “To keep our community safe, it’s imperative that we ALL stay up to date on industry technology. It just goes to show how strongly we all believe in environmental safety and responsibly produced natural gas and oil.”
The course was carried out over three days. It focused on the theory and practical applications of infrared thermography cameras. Students learned how to manipulate camera settings to understand how it reacts and displays data in different scenarios. Once they collected this data, the next step was learning how to take it from its raw state and create professional infrared inspection reports that could be shared.
Infrared thermography is a vital technology for our industry. It’s a regular part of our operations and allows us to identify any potential leaks quickly and accurately from a safe distance. Once these leaks are detected, we can make the necessary repairs and prevent further harm to the environment or equipment.
