Job Title: Outside Sales Representative – Oil & Gas

Location: St. Clairsville, Ohio (Utica Shale region) – field territory-based

Job Type: Full-Time (Exempt)

Reports to: Sales Manager

About Us:

Furbay Electric Supply Co. is a fourth-generation, family-owned electrical distribution company with over 90 years of experience. Headquartered in Canton, Ohio, with branches in Mansfield and St. Clairsville, we specialize in wire, cable, and electrical products for demanding industrial end markets. Our St. Clairsville branch sits at the center of the Utica Shale play, positioning us to serve the oil & gas sector and the region’s fast-growing data center market.

Job Summary:

The Outside Sales Representative – Oil & Gas is a specialized field sales role focused on selling electrical products — with an emphasis on wire and cable — to oil & gas customers operating in and around the Utica Shale. This role owns the oil & gas book of business out of the St. Clairsville branch: maintaining and growing existing producer, midstream, and oilfield-service accounts while pursuing new ones. As a secondary growth focus, this rep will develop data center customers across Ohio — anchored in the Columbus market and expanding statewide — where large-scale power and infrastructure demand is driving significant electrical product opportunity.

Key Responsibilities:

Oil & Gas Account Ownership: Serve as the primary point of contact for oil & gas customers — producers, midstream operators, EPC firms, and oilfield-service companies — across the Utica Shale territory, maintaining relationships and driving repeat and project business.
Wire & Cable Specialization: Sell and consult on electrical products with a focus on wire and cable, matching product specifications to the harsh-environment, high-spec demands of oilfield and midstream applications.
Data Center Development: Identify and win new data center customers across the Ohio region, anchored in the Columbus market and expanding as the sector grows, coordinating with internal project/quotation teams on large electrical supply opportunities.
Sales Growth: Meet or exceed sales and gross-margin targets by expanding existing accounts and pursuing new opportunities within the assigned territory and target segments.
Technical Needs Assessment: Conduct job-site and customer needs assessments, understand application requirements, and provide accurate, technically sound product recommendations.
Project & Quotation Support: Partner with inside sales and project teams on quotes, material takeoffs, and delivery coordination for both stocking-distribution and project-based orders.
Market Intelligence: Track rig activity, midstream buildout, data center announcements, competitor activity, and commodity-driven pricing dynamics, sharing insights with internal teams to inform strategy.
Territory Management: Plan and prioritize field activity to cover the Utica Shale territory and Ohio data center prospects efficiently, maintaining consistent contact with customers and prospects.
Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate CRM records and submit regular reports on sales activity, pipeline status, and account health.

Required Skills:

Technical Product Knowledge: Ability to learn and retain detailed knowledge of electrical products, especially wire and cable, and apply it to oil & gas and data center use cases.
Sales & Negotiation: Strong ability to close deals and negotiate terms that meet both company margin goals and customer needs.
Relationship-Building: Excellent interpersonal skills to develop trust with field, procurement, and engineering contacts.
Self-Motivation: Highly driven, able to work independently in the field and manage a large geographic territory.
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication for clear interactions with customers and internal teams.
Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose customer application challenges and deliver appropriate product solutions.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in Business, Sales, or a related field preferred.
Experience: Minimum 2–4 years in outside sales, preferably in electrical distribution or industrial supply. Prior experience selling into oil & gas, midstream, industrial MRO, or data center construction is strongly preferred.
Product Familiarity: Working knowledge of wire, cable, and electrical distribution products is a significant advantage.
Technical Proficiency: Experience with CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Travel: Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regularly throughout the assigned territory.

Classification:

Exempt/Nonexempt Status: Exempt

This position is classified as exempt and is not eligible for overtime pay under federal and state laws.
