Straw Blankets, Excelsior Blankets and Coconut Blankets for Erosion Control and Grass Growth
Another valuable product available through Marshall County Co-op is straw blankets, an important solution used heavily in construction, reclamation, and land restoration projects.
What Is a Straw Blanket?
A straw blanket is used primarily to help establish grass growth and prevent erosion. The blanket is rolled out over prepared ground, pinned into place, and seeded. As time passes:
- The blanket protects the soil
- Moisture is retained
- Grass seed begins to grow
- The straw naturally decomposes into the soil
Straw blankets are commonly used for:
- Pipeline reclamation
- Hillsides and slopes
- Construction areas
- Drainage ditches
- Newly seeded land
- Erosion control projects
They provide an effective and environmentally friendly way to stabilize soil while encouraging healthy vegetation growth.
