Byron Donalds, a Representative from Southwest Florida, just taught the oil and gas industry how to fight back against New York style demagoguery. We need more of this!
Something interesting happened in Congress yesterday as a House committee chaired by the reprehensibly snobby Carolyn Maloney, from where else but New York, demagogued against the oil and gas industry. Maloney is the poster child for demagogic elitists who bad mouth the very people they depend upon to deliver their food, their heat, their transportation and their microphones. She got called out on it by Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida.
Watch Rep. Donalds in action, especially the first two minutes:
If you bothered to watch more of the video you also noticed a problem in the tepid response of API’s Mike Sommers. Contrasted with the intro by Donalds, it was weak and generally ineffective; too middle of the road and too slow to get to the point, especially with his answer that “we, as an organization, support all forms of energy.” Really? Someone should tell Sommers he’s the representative of the oil and gas industry and he’s not there to defend subsidized competition from solar and wind.
This is the problem with the oil and gas majors who fund groups such as API. They are too polite and too appeasement oriented. There is a war going on between left and right, capitalists and corporatists, freedom and tyranny, demagoguery and truth and if we refuse to fight, we will lose. It’s that simple. Carolyn Maloney obviously isn’t taking any prisoners, so why are we not fighting?
Rep. Donalds knows how to fight. You directly take on the enemy by calling out their lies and tactics and when asked about electric cars you say “Those electric cars are really coal cars today and you’re fooling yourself if you think that’s helping the environment.” Bravo to Byron Donalds!
