France’s Total added three new solar power plants to its portfolio in India, through a partnership with AGEL, the renewables subsidiary of the Adani Group.

The companies formed a joint venture in February holding a 2.1 gigawatts (GW) solar capacity in the country. They have now decided to expand the portfolio to 2.3GW, Kallanish Energy reports.

Total’s CEO Patrick Pouyanne said in statement on Thursday India is a strong growth area for renewable energy, as it targets 175GW of installed capacity by 2022.

“Since last year, the Group has strengthened its commitment in India with around 5GW of solar projects in the country, in line with its ambition to become a world leader in renewable energies,” he added.

To date, the Total-AGEL joint venture owns 12 farms. The last three farms acquired by the partners account for 205MW additional capacity.
