Cheniere Energy has received approval from the federal government to export liquid natural gas (LNG). As WSJ reported last week, Freeport LNG Development signed a 20-year contract with two large Japanese power companies. Anti-nuclear demonstrations throughout Japan are causing Japanese power companies to have all options available to them and LNG is one of the best. By the way, the price of natural gas in the Far East is 5 times higher than in the U.S.
Freeport is also in advanced talks with Royal Dutch Shell for a similar export deal. BP and Exxon Mobil were also mentioned in article as companies exploring LNG export potential. I personally believe Exxon Mobil’s play in the Marcellus and Utica Shale will to export LNG.
