D.E. Shaw Renewable Investments and Entergy New Orleans have announced groundbreaking on two solar projects in Louisiana, Kallanish Energy reports.
The projects in Washington and St. James parishes will together produce 70 megawatts of power.
The projects represent the largest solar facility currently under construction in Louisiana.
The 50-megawatt Iris Solar project in Washington County will cover 492 acres. The 20-megawatt St. James Solar site covers 218 acres.
Both projects are expected to begin commercial service in mid-2021.
They are expected to provide electricity to about 13,000 homes.
Entergy New Orleans has entered into 20-year power purchase agreements to buy the electricity generated by the two projects.
Together, the two projects will create about 250 construction jobs.
DESRI’s portfolio includes 41 wind and solar projects with more than 2,400 megawatts of aggregate capacity.
The company is based in New York City.
Entergy New Orleans, a subsidiary of Entergy Corp., provides electricity to 200,000 customers and natural gas to 108,000 customers.
