Harrisburg, PA; July 8, 2019: Dawood Engineering, Inc. (Dawood) is pleased to announce the addition of John Mizerak, as Director of Planning and Economic Development. In this role, John will work with Dawood’s public and private sector clients on strategic planning, economic development and public funding projects across Dawood’s diverse client-base.
John joins Dawood Engineering having most recently served as the Economic Program Director for a large international engineering and consulting firm. He has over 23 years of experience developing strategic plans and implementing prioritized projects. His extensive experience includes building public and private partnerships and developing complex public funding strategies to leverage the necessary resources to implement economic projects. He has also assisted communities with recovering from devastating natural disasters while identifying ways for them to become more resilient.

Mizerak holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Public Administration from Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania. During his career, he has worked at the local level to manage complex development projects from the planning to implementation phases. He has built complex public funding strategies to assist in the implementation of impactful community and economic development projects. John has been an instructor for the Pennsylvania Municipal League presenting educational programs related to the most important municipal planning topics. He managed the State of Pennsylvania’s land use planning program while working for the Department of Community and Economic Development. In this position, he developed policy and programs related to local and county planning. He worked with the State Agencies responsible for providing funding and regulatory permits for infrastructure and facilities to incorporate reviews of municipal plans and ordinances into their decision-making process as well as worked to develop the first set of Invest Criteria used by State Agencies. Most recently, he has been working across the country to assist communities devastated by natural disasters to develop strategic plans prioritizing their projects, conduct stakeholder engagement session, and leveraging the available funding to recover from the disaster and build more resilient economies. His operating philosophy is that building a strong and diverse economy is the foundation for creating a more resilient community. He will be located in Dawood’s Harrisburg office, serving clients nationally. Mizerak is a resident of Upper Allen Township with his wife and 3 children.
