  • Forbes still forecasting $8 Nat. Gas.  In July, I had an article about a reporter at Forbes predicting $8 gas.  Well, that same reporter restated his forecast this week.  The forecast is based on storage injection levels being much lower this than last year’s.  Nat Gas closed Friday around $3.60.
  • Portage “the below the radar” county.  No one seems to be noticing the 14 new wells being planned, permitted or already under construction in Portage County.  The township line between Windham and Nelson is one of the hottest areas for drilling in Ohio.
  • Brookings Institue at the Marcellus Summit.  No proof to date fracking is responsible for water contamination; US natural gas is adequate for exporting globally, however, there is an uncertainity of the size of resource base.  Brookings also gave exporting scenario of election results under Obama vs. Romney.  Obama would have tigher regulations than today; Romney would continue studying fracking outcomes; would defer to individual states for regulations.
  • News from WV.  Harrison County is the #1 natural gas producing county in WV.  Chesapeake is the largest producer followed by Antero Resources and EQT Productions.  These three producers account for 84% of WV’s Marcellus production through 2011.
  • Shell getting active in Mercer County PA.  eFacts is reporting that there are two new SWEPI (Shell) wells in Mercer County.  One is Fairview Township the other is in Millcreek Township.  Shell has considerable activity in Mercer and is putting its new leaseholds to work.
  • Chesapeake focusing on the Utica Shale.  CEO Aubrey McClendon is no stranger to controversy.  His next big bet is largely controversial - he's convinced the future of his company as well as the nation lies with the Nat gas in the Utica Shale.  If he’s right, it could change – well, everything.
  • Big spending in the Northern Tier.  One of the gas companies will spend  millions of dollars in the Lycoming, Tioga and Bradford Counties (Rumor)
  • Chevron enters PA.  It now has its pipeline in place in the Poconos.
  • Consol Energy enjoying success in the Utica.  Here’s an update on some of its activity
    • Developing a second well in Noble County in Seneca Township south of Seneca Lake.
    • Developing six wells in Mahoning and Portage Counties which it hopes will be online in the next few months.
    • Is operating two horizontal rigs in the Utica Shale, one in Tuscarawas County and one in Mahoning County.  In total for 2012, CONSOL expects to drill 8 wells on its acreage in the Ohio Utica Shale.
  • A Romney Victory.   One of the gas companies in PA has stated that it will bring four more gas rigs into PA if Romney wins. (Rumor) Go Romney!!

Baker Hughes Rig Counts

  • Baker Hughes Rigs count for the October 19 reporting week.  Rig counts remaining constant
    • PA Marcellus 63 rigs – unchanged
    • PA Utica 3 rigs – Unchanged
    • Ohio Utica 23 rigs – up
    • WV Marcellus 26 rigs – down 1
