We wish all our readers and their families a Happy Thanksgiving.  May you enjoy the spirit the holiday.

Since this is a holiday with many of you taking some time off, we have just a few noteworthy news items.  Look for considerably more information next week.

The latest facts and a rumor from the Marcellus and Utica Shale

  • Bullish information coming out of DUG East
    • The focus of the speakers was either the Marcellus or Utica or both.  There was a little sense of wonder as the production from the Marcellus continues to amaze.  Many of the speakers stated that the Marcellus is the second largest natural gas reserve in the world and could become the largest in a few short years.  Look for continued drilling for a long time.
    • The Utica is still in the exploratory and testing phase, but the early winners make the Utica look very promising, in selected areas so far.  Chesapeake commented this week that oil results have not been as promising as the wet gas.
  • Ryder natural gas fleet performing well.  Ryder System, Inc., a leader in commercial transportation and supply chain management solutions, has achieved a significant milestone with its fleet of 250 natural gas vehicles surpassing six million miles. The fleet consists of 35 liquefied natural gas and 215 compressed natural gas tractors, currently running in 32 customer operations in California, Arizona, and Michigan. Since deploying its natural gas truck program in 2011, the vehicles have replaced approximately 923,000 gallons of diesel fuel with domestically produced natural gas and reduced emissions by more than 2,300 MTCO2e (metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions).
  • Chesapeake drilling activity in 2013.  Chesapeake will drill 1000 wells in 2013. (Big rumor)
